The eNummus Project

The eNummus project started out as a database design to capture the details of the coins of Roman "client kingdoms", such as Thrace, Bosporan Kingdom, Bithynia, Pontus, Numidia etc. Since there was no unifying culture across these kingdoms, the coin types of these kingdoms can vary greatly, monograms and symbols had to be captured all over the coinage. The database design became so flexible that it could easily be extended to capture any sort of ancient coin type: Roman Republican, Roman Imperial, Greek kingdoms and city states etc.

eNummus was created by Dr Matthew Shillam (shillam@romanorum.com.au) from the data collecting to support his thesis on Roman client kings.
